Murder in the Med: 'Death on the Riviera' by John Bude – Book Recommendation

If the early 1950s were somewhat drab, John Bude brightened things up with this classic crime caper set on the glamorous French Riviera. What starts out for a couple of London detectives as a jaunt to Nice to hunt down a local crook involved in a counterfeit currency racket leads to a collection of curious characters lodging in a villa. All sorts of illicit occurrences involving art, adultery, forgery, romance, and family secrets are woven together and culminate in murder. But what or who connects them all? Will the detectives get their man (or woman)?

Reissued by the British Library after more than sixty years, this is great fun and exactly the kind of thing to read either when basking on a sun-lounger or indeed to indulge in some nostalgic escapism on a dull winter’s day.
