What I Wore On My Holidays (or, What I Wear, Where)
Are you a Dedicated Follower of Fashion? Want to read about the latest trends? Then, you are definitely in the wrong place. No fashion icons here. No holiday haute-couture. No budget beach buys, either.
Whether for
cultural reasons, practicality, or sheer laziness on my part, my vacation
wardrobe has had to accommodate an eclectic range of outfits, which I would
like to share with you for general amusement purposes.
My first
foray into unusual apparel came on a teenaged, alcohol-fuelled trip to Kavos,
Corfu, when a late-night snack was called for by my friends. Having drawn the
short straw to pop to the kebab shop next to our apartment (so classy),
I couldn’t be bothered to change out of the nightie I was already wearing, so
ventured forth thus attired. Since this was the era of the babydoll dress (and,
heavens, it was Kavos!), I just about got away with it (other than one
or two quizzical eyebrow raises, which I might have imagined, anyway).
This was
just the beginning of my sensational sartorial stylings whilst abroad.
Happily,
photographic evidence exists of some of these magnificent moments (not the
Kavos nightie, though). But don’t get too excited – I’m not going to share them
with you all at once. You’re going to have to wait with bated breath to learn
of the circumstances that drove me on various occasions right over the
cutting-edge of couture. When you see, you’re bound to wish you were me.
