An Eggstraordinary Outfit: (Not the) Lady in the Van visits a South African Ostrich Farm

 

I haven’t always anticipated the weather accurately when packing for a vacation. One such occasion was in South Africa on a day when we visited an ostrich farm. It was November and a tad chilly, despite being late spring. I made the best of it by layering, but the overall effect was not entirely flattering, especially with the addition of a feathered hat (we were being shown the farm’s various products, alongside learning about the birds themselves, more of which in a later post). In fact, somebody delightfully and hilariously pointed out that I bore a striking resemblance to Maggie Smith in Alan Bennett’s The Lady in the Van. Not sure about that, but you may have your own opinion…Incidentally, standing on the eggs was intended to prove how resilient they are, but by lucky hap also indicated that despite my best efforts, I had not gained a horrendous amount of weight whilst on holiday. Happy days.
