Afternoon Tea: Cobbles Tea Room, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, UK.
I’m British. I drink tea. So far, so stereotypical. However, I am aware that this occupation cannot be claimed solely as a British phenomenon. I think Brits were actually quite late to the (tea) party. Still, in celebration of this most convivial and unifying pastime, I shall recount some of my favourite tea experiences around the world for you to imbibe. Here is the first:
Cobbles
Tea Room, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, UK. This was, for me, quite a find. The tea room is located on
the upper floor of a fifteenth-century building originally associated with the
Hanseatic League. It’s a jolly nice atmosphere inside, with lots of wonky
wooden beams, as one might expect from a building of its age. One can have
one’s afternoon tea at a table, or pretend one is in one’s very own drawing
room by choosing an elegant sofa situated by the fireplace. There was a very
splendid selection of homemade cakes (so difficult to choose!) and delicate
finger sandwiches. I absolutely loved the silver teapot and milk jug. Oh, and
the little tea strainer – so civilised! And the blue and white china! Definitely
worth a visit.
